Movie Review: Cruella (2021)

by Evania Cheung (5E)

There is no denying that Cruella is a fantastic movie for all Disney fans including me.

Cruella is an original story for the villain in 101 Dalmatians, which is about a villain, called Cruella (Emma Stone) who wants to use Dalmatians for making fur coats. Although there is some violence and improper behavior, such as thievery, it is still family-friendly under the parents’ guidance.

The story begins with Cruella pictured as a little girl, named Estella Miller. She is a creative child and she is a fashion design genius. However, she behaves badly at school so she is expelled from school and moves to London with her mom.

On the way there, her mom, Catherine, stops at an upper-class party to ask for financial assistance. Despite being told to stay in the car, Estella sneaks into the party and attracts the attention of the host’s three ferocious Dalmatians. Unfortunately, they chase her outside, and push Catherine off a cliff to her death.

Estella runs away to London and meets two orphans called Jasper and Horace. Fast forward to ten years later, Estella practices thievery with her friends, at the same time, she also works very hard to design different clothes because she wants to pursue her dream of becoming a fashion designer.

For her birthday, Jasper and Horace get her an entry-level job at the Liberty department store. However, Estella is made a janitor and denied the chance to use her talents.

When Estella redecorates a window display, the Baroness von Hellman who owns a fashion house is impressed by Estella’s work and offers her a job at the Baroness’s fashion house.

Cruella is really a great movie. I am not disappointed with it. As an art lover, I also want to be a world-famous fashion designer when I grow up. After watching this movie, I will work as hard as Cruella to pursue my dream.

I highly recommend you to watch this movie with your family. It is absolutely worth-watching.
