Health Benefits of Eating Mangoes

by Jacob Lee (5D) and Marquis Yeung (4H)

Mangoes, the king of fruits,

is a very healthy superfruit that is also very tasty, according to public opinion. Some of the benefits of mangos are: anti-aging, vitamin C for a healthy immune system, vitamin A for healthy skin, fibre, vitamin M and no fats for a healthy circulatory system.

Let’s not forget vitamin B6 for skin metabolism (which is very important as my experience tells me), copper for many functions and 13 more nutrients for your body. Furthermore, mangoes are the source of a compound known as mangiferin, which studies suggest may be able to reduce inflammation of the heart. Mangoes can also help stabilize your digestive system.

Besides being healthy, mangoes are also #2 on the recently conducted Gazette fruit ranking, which makes it very popular. Today, these colorful, tasty fruits are not only a mainstay of Indian and Philippines cuisine, but are popular throughout the world.

Mangos can weigh anywhere from a few ounces to more than five pounds each, depending on the variety. Regardless of the type of mango you buy, these fruits offer some impressive health benefits. While mangos were historically only available at the end of the rainy season, today they can be found in grocery stores all year long.
