My Top Three Favourite Mario Games
by Hailey Wong (4C)
Released on October 22, 2022, the gameplay is very similar to Kingdom Battle. Players are able to build their team of characters from Mario, Peach, Luigi, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Mario, Rabbid Luigi.
Mario and friends are tasked to rescue the Sparks captured by the evil Cursa, rescue Rosalina and collect Purified Darkness Crystals which are from each new world, Beacon Beach, Pristine Peaks, Palette Prime, Terra Flora and Barrendale Mesa. They are joined by three new heroes on the way: Edge, Rabbid Rosalina, and Bowser—Mario’s enemy who is brainwashed by Cursa. Together, they help the Rabbid victims of each world fight the Darkness infection while battling Cursa’s team of evil Rabbids, Bowser’s brainwashed minions, and the Spark Hunters— three female Rabbids named Midnite, Bedrock, and Daphne.
I really like this game because it has cool characters and they are really funny. Also, the game has powerful weapons and some very funny enemies, such as the Goomba With the Pot On Its Head.
Everyone knows about the original Super Mario Bros. game — Bowser’s always kidnapping Peach. Well, that’s what happens in Mario Odyssey. Bowser kidnapps Peach again and plans to marry her! At first, Mario tries to rescue her, but fails, and Bowser throws Mario to a land where lots of hat spirits live. There, Mario meets Cappy, a hat spirit who decides to become Mario’s hat, because his original hat was stomped by Bowser when he was battling him. Together, they travel across many kingdoms such as the Cascade Kingdom, Lake Kingdom, Sand Kingdom, etc. The trouble is, Bowser wants to steal each kingdoms’ treasure, and while he is stealing them, he sends a team of Broodals (rabbit like creatures) to battle Mario and Cappy.
In the Cascade Kingdom, Mario and Cappy find an old ship, known as the Odyssey. They need power moons to power the Odyssey. Therefore, Mario and Cappy explore each kingdom in order to find hidden power moons. With Cappy, Mario can easily collect power moons, because Cappy can let him capture enemies, such as Goombas, which Mario can stack them up onto Goomba switches and unlock power moons. Other than that, Mario can do amazing jumps and moves with Cappy, like the cap throw, which lets Mario reach things up high.
I enjoy this game because Mario has very cool moves and there are really challenging power moons to collect. I liked that a lot.
A 2016 video game, this game has multiplayer choices and single player choices. In single player mode, you can play Grand Prix, which you complete against CPUs alone, time races, where you try to set new records, team races, where you can play with CPUs in a team, and VS races, where you play, like, minigames, such as Balloon Battle, where you destroy other players’s balloons. The points are based on how many balloons you destroy. My personal favorites are Renegade Roundup and ShineThief. In Renegade Roundup, it involves a team of “thieves” and “police”. The “thieves” try to avoid the “police”, because they have Piranha Plants, which could “eat” them! If the “thieves” were “eaten”, they will be captured in a cage, which only lets them out if a teammate drives through an unlock button under the cage. The winning team will be decided by these rules : If the “police” “eats” all of the “thieves” in an amount of limited time, the “police” wins; if the “police” can’t “eat” all of the “thieves”, the “thieves” wins. In Shine Thief, you must get control of the Shine Sprite that is placed in the middle of the battlefield, between the players or teams. If a player or teammate gets control of Shine Sprite until the points reach from 30 to 0, the player or team wins.
The best part about Mario Kart 8 deluxe is that you can unlock new items for your kart and there are new characters such as Link, Isabella, and Inkling Boy. If you play far enough, you can unlock the ultimate kart items and character: Gold Mario, gold glider, gold wheel and gold motorcycle. It’s great!
