Chinese Salt and Pepper Squid

Chinese Salt and Pepper Squid.

Here in Hong Kong there is something that nobody can deny… We love Japan!

There is so much that we admire about Hong Kong’s favorite travel destination, but their food reigns above all.

The global pandemic has made it difficult to travel to our beloved country, but it doesn’t mean we can’t bring Japan into our kitchen! Here is a tempura recipe to bring you closer again to the land of the rising sun. Enjoy!

Ingredients: What You’ll Need

  • 2 big pieces of fresh squid

  • 2 tablespoons of corn flour

  • 2 tablespoons of flour

  • 100 grams of tempura powder

  • 60 millilitres of cool water

  • 5 grams of salt and pepper

  • A pot of oil, for boiling (be cautious when handling)

Remember!

  • Get help from your parents to help if you are under the age of 12, or not confident in your cooking.

  • Try not to drip any water on the boiling oil or you may get hurt.

  • Handle all kitchen equipment (especially sharp equipment!) with care.

  • Do not distract yourself with mobile devices or other entertainment while cooking the food. It can be very dangerous to operate hot plates and oils.

You are ready to eat! Enjoy your food!

Today many people struggle to find the time to cook for themselves. In fact, it is much easier to eat out than to put in the effort it takes to make an entire meal from scratch. I hope this simple step-by-step recipe either inspires you to get back in the kitchen or even try something different.
