Animal Friends: A Reflection

by Hazel Yuen, P4F

Animals and humans can be friends, but different species of animals can be friends too. At the Institute of Greatly Endangered Species in South Carolina, USA, there is a 2 years old chimpanzee named Anjana. He assists the zoo keeper to take care of two baby white tigers. There was a hurricane that separated the two cubs and their mother during the storm. For them to survive, zoo keeper brought the two cubs to the zoo to take good care of them and make sure they will not die on their own. The two baby tigers’ names are Mitra and Shiva. They were too small and needed someone to take care of them all the time. The zoo keeper is busy taking care of all the animals in the zoo so he invited Anjana to help and be his assistant. They were very lucky to have the chimpanzee to help them. Anjana is a very kind and gentle chimpanzee, she will always take care of the baby tigers just like her own babies.

Anjana understands what she needs to do and learns from the zoo keeper how to take care of the cubs. For example, feeding them milk bottles, cuddling and playing games with them. It also takes care of them when they are sick. The three of them have become best friends and do everything together. The two tigers will follow Anjana everywhere. They play together and Anjana will give them hugs and kisses all the time just like their real mother. The two cubs grew up happily and healthily thinking Anjana is their real mother. What an amazing story. I think this is a very touching story because I never thought a chimpanzee can be friends with furious animals like tigers in the real world but the story shows us that it is possible. So everything can happen in this world and we should explore more!
