Never-changing Friendship

As a story writing technique, we taught our students to plan out the ending first before they began. It helps focus where the character will go, what needs to happen and whether the story ends happy or sad.

For this assignment, students were given the last sentence and had to write a story to match it.

Wilson was a new student in school and he met Fred. They live in the same place in the same building on the same floor. Fred lives in Flat A and Wilson lives in Flat B. When Fred got up, the first thing he did was to go to the school bus station and wait until Wilson came. They sit next to each other on the school bus and in the classroom too. When they went back home, they first went to the cyber café in the clubhouse and did their homework. When they finished their homework, they went back to their flat and played video games online with each other. After that, they chat on Whatsapp.

One day, unexpectedly, Wilson sent a message to Fred, saying he will relocate to a new building. When Fred heard this news, he just stared blankly at the computer screen, opened his mouth in an “O” shape. But Wilson’s mum was a stubborn person, she wouldn't change her mind. The only thing he could do was to let Wilson relocate to the new building. Although he doesn’t want to, Wilson needs to relocate to a new building. . .

Wilson didn't live with Fred anymore so Fred was very lonely. He still plays video games online versus Wilson, but he couldn’t do homework with Wilson so he was sullen and depressed.

Three months later, Fred and Wilson chatted on Whatsapp again. Wilson said his mum allowed him to go to Fred’s house and sleep for a night. Fred just can’t wait until Wilson comes to his house. After he asked his mum, Fred typed a message to Wilson to confirm Wilson could stay for a night.

This day came very fast and Fred was like a dog with two tails that he could see his friend. When the doorbell rang, he opened the door and entertained enthusiastically. Wilson was a bit hungry so Fred gave him biscuits for afternoon tea immediately. Then, they watched TV for about an hour. The sky was getting darker so  they ate supper and went to bed. Fred let Wilson sleep on the upper deck and he slept on the lower deck. They secretly chatted and told some jokes. They laughed loudly but no one listened because their room was far from the living room (Fred’s mum was binge-watching a Korean drama).

The next day, Fred got up at about seven o’clock but didn’t go to brush his teeth because he was afraid Mum would tell him off that he woke up too early. Therefore, he pretended to be asleep. He heard his mum and Wilson’s mum talking about Wilson and his family emigrating to England. It was a bolt of blue for him. But Wilson’s dad was a stubborn person, too. He shook Wilson and told him the bad news. He sighed and said, “Mum told me last Monday.” He sighed and said, “This is our last time to see each other. ” They brushed their teeth and went out to eat their breakfast. An hour later, Wilson left and Fred felt very reluctant. “He won’t come back very soon…” Fred sighed.

He knew he wouldn't come back. Nobody could change that now and nobody wanted to.
