Debate 23-24

The Debate Team had a fruitful year in 2023-2024 at the UNESCO United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Debating Competition.

Our Senior Team won the 2nd Runner-Up award in their division, beating Maryknoll Convent School at their away competition. They tackled the debate on sustainability: “That cooking at home is better than eating out”. Our students Matthew Yam and Kaycee Leung also won the Best Speaker award in their respective quarter-final and semi-final matches.

Our Junior Team’s Jasmine Wong won the Best Speaker award in their division’s quarter-final match. They improved greatly since their friendly match, as affirmed by the judges’ split decision.

Overall, our students demonstrated they could debate at a high level using hard evidence and quality sources. They persuaded the judges to agree with their position with convincing rebuttals. They used their body language and voice projection to grab their audience’s attention effectively.
