Weird Scientific Names
by Jacob Lee (6F)
Some scientific names are dull, but some are weird and will turn your day around. Let’s rank them according to the polls!
Least cursed:
Melon
Melon is a chemical made by infusing ten heptazine units together with amine bonds in a non-cyclic topological pattern -- not exactly cursed compared to the ones below.
Chemical formula: C60N91H33
2nd Least cursed:
Housane
Made by infusing a cyclopropane and a cyclobutane ring(both VERY unstable) -- with a cursed chemical structure and such a name-- it ranks above melon.
A bit cursed:
Prismane
An isomer of benzene is made by connecting six carbons in a triangular prism shape. -- its cursed chemical structure and a name similar to prismarine(the Minecraft block), it ranks above housane.
Chemical formula: C6H6
Nonanal
Nonanal is an aldehyde derived from the alkane nonane. -- WHAT IS THIS NAME? It lacks chemical cursedness, but is very cursed.
Chemical formula: C9H18O
A bit more cursed:
Vomitoxin
Vomitoxin is a toxin produced by plant pathogens. It causes a decrease in serotonin, a natural antidepressant. Accidentally ingesting vomitoxin can lead to depression, food refusals and having too much gas in your gut. -- cursed enough to be the 2nd most cursed name on this list.
Chemical formula:C15,H20,O6
The most cursed chemicals:
Traumatic Acid
Traumatic acid is a monounsaturated(having a double bond)dicarboxylic acid. It increases the cell division where the plant is hurt, to protect the plant.
Chemical formula:C12,H20,O4
Moronic Acid
Moronic acid is an acid found in MISTLETOE(cursed chemicals have cursed origins, too. It is the best antiviral medicine to treat HSV-1, a common virus with no current vaccines. The name is so misleading. It is not even moronic. It is heroic(better be called Superman acid). -- This goes onto the top of this list.
BONUS!
Hydroxic Acid
This acid is dangerous! If you touch the gas form of hydroxic acid, your finger will burn! It will also react with metals to corrode or explode! It is the strongest solvent in the whole big world! At temperatures above 100 Celsius, it will Explode!*
Thank you for reading, and remember, you might need these chemicals one day.
P.S. Hydroxic acid is water.
