Swim Gala 2024
by Danelle Ling (6C)
On January 29, 2024 Pui Ching Primary School held its annual Swimming Gala. And this year, is our special 135th anniversary Swimming Gala!
We arrived at Kowloon Park Swimming Pool. We saw people preparing for the races, doing exercises and swimming.
Soon, the opening ceremony started. We brought thrilled feelings to get ready for swimming! We had breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly… and most astonishing part of the whole competition, the relay!
As the races began, the competitors dove down into the pool and swam as fast as they could. Every class let out cheering echos from the balcony. After the breaststroke race, I interviewed a first runner-up, Wong Kui Sum from 5B. He said that he was very grateful that he could get a silver or a bronze and he was thinking he would attend the Swimming Gala next year, too.
Back in the bleachers, I interviewed some students from 6C. Chloe Kui, said that the races were fun, even though she didn’t participate. Another student also from 6C, Gladys Tsui, said that it was overwhelming and memorable to see some of her classmates stepping onto the podium to get medals.
I also had the opportunity to interview Principal Yip. He said that his favorite part was the 50 meter butterfly race. It was different from Sports Day because the students expressed their strength in the pool instead of the sports ground. He also said that he was happy to see the students doing their best in swimming.
Overall, the Swimming Gala was great fun! Everyone enjoyed it so much! There were unforgettable moments. I hope that next year’s Swimming Gala will be as fun as this year’s!
