Poem: Cheung Chau Bun Festival

by Isabella Kam Chin Yau 6D

This poem was written for the Budding Poets Competition 2023-2024. The theme was “heritage”. Students wrote poems about festivals, traditions, customs, cuisines and myths. Some students even wrote about western heritage as a way to challenge themselves.

Cheung Chau Bun Festival

On a night in Cheung Chau,

People gathered at a bun tower.

Waiting for a race to begin.

They squeezed and rocked on

Like the waves of the sea.

“Ding Ding!”

The participants dashed up

With ultimate power,

Grabbing buns from the tower.

Stepping on each other.

Sweating like fountains,

Sweating like waterfalls.

“Do not give up,”

The citizens cheered.

"Ding Ding”,

Soon, the competition ended.

Buns and peace were delivered to everyone.

Heritage and charity to all!
