Poem: Chinese New Year

by Bella Wang Tsz Ki 5D

This poem was written for the Budding Poets Competition 2023-2024. The theme was “heritage”. Students wrote poems about festivals, traditions, customs, cuisines and myths. Some students even wrote about western heritage as a way to challenge themselves.

Chinese New Year

As twelve o’ clock struck, everyone gave a shout:

“Happy New Year! That’s what it’s about!”

Fireworks zoomed in the sky in swarms,

A fury of colourful storms.

A sea of Lanterns hung in red,

Did you know they were made with thread?

Children’s laughter echoed through the streets,

The money in envelopes still repeats.

Chinese New Year, what a feat!

This festival will always be sweet.
