This is a writing assignment on character. Students were instructed to write an opening scene introducing their main character and their problem in one scene.

Hailey Myra Leung from 4G managed to finish her scene and completed the entire story.

On a windy Monday, I woke up very early on my comfy bed and thought about going to the bathroom quietly to brush my teeth. Also, I had to cover the scars made by Jenny, the principal’s daughter. My wounds have been healing for a very long time.

“It was the tenth time this week! I’m scared of them, I only wanted to be friends with them! I don’t understand why they like to make jokes on me. They always give me Oreos with toothpaste in them, and one time she put eraser pieces in my food,” I thought, squeezing the toothpaste. I squeezed the toothpaste as hard as I could so I could put all my anger into it.

I hate them! I was pretty stupid at first, I thought they were kind, so we became friends. She only wanted to be ‘friends’ with me to copy my homework and to use all my savings to buy food and makeup for herself. I felt regret and put on makeup to hide all the scars from Jenny.

I looked at the clock; it was 6:03 a.m. I wanted to go to school earlier, so I could do some revision. Every time Jenny and her friends saw me, they played a wide range of pranks. All the girls wanted to be friends with her because they thought Jenny was smart but I knew she was cheating on all exams.

After changing into my uniform, I quickly made myself a simple sandwich and ran swiftly to school.

Heidi walked along Sunny Street as normal, but this time, a group of people ran quickly and shouted, “There’s a huge problem! Don’t go there!” They pointed back where they came and hid behind the big trees.

Heidi stared at them and asked curiously, “What? What do you mean?” No one dared to answer her.

A kid with a pair of green glasses said firmly, “Well… if you really want to know, I think you should check it by yourself.”

Heidi wanted to go to school as soon as possible.

She took a deep breath and thought, “ Nothing will happen to me. They acted this to make me scared and it might be Jenny's idea.”

Heidi felt suspicious but she decided to go carefully.

After walking for a while, Heidi saw some broken eggs on the floor. Those yellowish yolks on the floor of the street. Many flies flew around and some on to the egg yolks. A sound spoke behind Heidi when she investigated what happened “Yo! It's the loser of the world, guys!” said a girl with a high-pitched voice.

Heidi looked up and saw Jenny with her friends on the first floor of Miss Dombledoor’s bakery. Jenny held an egg and made a cold smile.

She asked, “Let’s play a game?”

When Heidi was about to say no, Jenny threw an egg on her shoulder. Heidi’s eyebrows scrunched together when she saw her uniform had got dirty. She held her fists tight and she could feel her heartbeat increase to triple faster.

Heidi shouted, “Jenny Wormwood, if I found the word ‘evil’ in the dictionary, I would probably find a picture of you!”

Jenny touched her short black hair and said,'' Ugh! I’m gonna tell my dad about this!”

Heidi answered loudly, “ I’m getting out of here, I thought we were best friends.”

Jenny shouted,” What?! No! We’re not done here yet!” Jenny threw the other egg. Luckily, Heidi ran away and arrived at school.

In the hallway of school, Heidi saw her class teacher Miss Honey who also was the head teacher.

“Hello, Heidi! You’re the first one here! Why are you so early?” asked Miss Honey.

Heidi said,”Oh! I was about to study for a while at this time, so no one will disturb me.”

Miss Honey said, “Sure! That’s a good idea since the exam is coming soon.” Heidi nodded and walked to her wooden table and put down her backpack beside her table.

Miss Honey looked at Heidi and asked, “Heidi, Why are your clothes dirty? Wait- are they egg yolks?” Heidi didn’t know how to answer her.

Heidi mumbled, “Well, I saw Jenny on the way to school, she was on the first floor of Miss Dombledoor’s bakery. She was throwing eggs at other people, and me…”

Miss Honey was shocked, she said, “Heidi, I thought Jenny and you were best friends!”

Heidi said, “No. She bullied me and used my savings to buy other things for herself. She always gossips about me,” Miss Honey could not believe her ears.

She stood up and said, “I’m gonna talk to the principal.” She walked out of the classroom quickly.

Later on, Heidi didn’t know what happened but she heard from the other classmates that Jenny transferred to the other school.

“Did you know that Jenny changed to School Sunny?" A girl said, looking at Heidi.

Another girl said quietly, “Yeah, I heard that she said a girl called Heidi told the teacher that she gossips her. How ridiculous!”

A girl with a red ribbon said, “Yeah. I thought Jenny was smart but someone said she cheated in all exams…”

“Quiet!” said the principal. “I only transferred my little girl cause I didn’t want her to be embarrassed!” He said.

A group of girls said, “ I thought you were sorry!”

The principal’s cheeks were red. “Quiet!”
