The Missing Parents
by Cory Kwan 6E
Today was Mother’s day. The poster was stricken on every street, every road, every lamp post. Seventeen-year-old Isa was walking down the path, heading back home. She looked at her phone; no updated statuses, no messages.
“Everyone should have been celebrating with their mother.” She thought as she suddenly reconnected to her old house- The Orphan Centre. She looked up at the sky. In the scene, through her eyes, she could see the grey sky, with the grey clouds, hardly shining the sky.
Isa arrived home. She kept staring at her aunt. Finally, she spoke to her aunt, “Aunt Karen, do you know who my parents are?”
“Stop asking those stupid questions. Come and help me clean the brunch of grass.”
Isa knew. Isa just knew that her aunt would never tell her. Isa decided to find her parents herself.
At night, Isa sneaked into her aunt’s bedroom. Fortunately, she found the adoption paper in the drawer. “ Bling!” The sound of the broken vase was overall the room. Isa ran out of the room quickly.
The next day was a holiday. Isa lied to her aunt that she would be camping with her friends, and she went out early without eating her breakfast. She was too excited about going to her adoption centre. Although she was sent to that adoption centre before, she couldn’t remember its name as she was too small at that time.
Isa used all her pocket money, eventually got to her adoption centre, the Horror Adoption Centre.
“Who would send their children to such an adoption centre with a scary name?’’ thought Isa, stepping into the centre.
She handed her adoption paper to the lady outside, who was eating an oily hamburger right now. The lady did not notice her.
“Can you help me find out who my parents are?” Isa shouted in her sharp voice. The lady finally raised her head. She looked at the form and took it inside. After around thirty minutes later, the lady was back with a folder.
“This may be your parents’ information.” Isa took away the form and ran out quickly. She could not stand the terrible rubbish smell there.
She took a look at the information, “Luice Bucks, Eme Lye, my surname is Bucks! Living place: Miks Helk Street. It was near this adoption centre!” Isa could not wait. She walked and walked, ran and ran, and never stopped.
Isa looked at the home. She was sure that was the house in the information folder. She knocked on the door, again and again, but no one answered. Isa sat down under the roof, waiting.
The sun rose. It was the morning now. Isa had already slept under the roof for one day. There was still no one.
Suddenly, an old man came and said,” Hi girl, what are you doing here?”
Isa woke up and asked,” Good morning. Do you know when the people living here will come back?”
“Haha, that house had been deserted for many years.” The older man laughed and ran away. At that moment,
Isa got a phone call,” Hi, are you the girl that asked for your parents’ information yesterday?”
“Yes,” Isa replied.
“I am sorry that I gave you the wrong file. Unfortunately, we could not find the real one. If you want to see your parents, you can go to the Horror Adoption Centre Headquarter to ask for it. But I am not sure if there is any information.”
“Thank you.” Isa sighed and hung up the phone. Isa knew she was a long way from finding her parents.
