Surprise

I looked through my photo album and looked at the photo of me and my best friends Leah and Nicole. Memories of them floated into my mind.
When we were in primary five, the teacher assigned us as a group of three in class.
We became friends quickly. I was very good at writing stories. So my teacher wanted me to participate in a school writing competition, so she saved my name on her checklist.
After class, I overheard Leah talking to her other friends, “I just can't believe the teacher just got her a spot in the school writing competition. I’m really good at writing too.’’ There was a little sarcasm in her voice. I felt really upset and left her talking with her friends. After school, when we were walking home, Nicole and I decided to follow Leah just for fun.
We spotted her in a stationery shop, she was buying lots of pink pencils and erasers. Nicole and I were too busy looking at the pink stationery, we didn’t even notice Leah turning around. Leah spotted us and ran towards me.
“Here,” she said handing me all the pink stationery, “it is for your writing competition, congratulations!’’
I was so surprised. “But weren’t you jealous?”I asked.
“No,” she answered, “my friends and I were just talking, deciding what to give you as a gift to congratulate you’’. Right then, I learned never to overthink things anymore.
